Sometimes it isn’t about money. Sometimes it’s about memories.
When Amanda lost her engagement ring during a boat trip in the Stockholm archipelago, it looked hopeless at first. The ring had slipped off while she was swimming and disappeared to the bottom, around three metres below the surface. What made the situation especially poignant was that the ring wasn’t just an engagement ring – it was custom-designed and made from the gold of her paternal grandmother’s and her mother’s rings.
“We really didn’t think we’d find it again. It had been lying on the bottom for five days,” the couple says.
But instead of giving up, they decided to try. Through Hygglo they rented underwater search equipment and prepared a careful sweep of the area where the ring had disappeared.

“We had a few false alarms with the metal detector before the real one turned up,” says Jacob.
After several days of waiting, planning and searching, the reward came. Amanda found the ring herself on one of the dives.
“We had prepared properly and searched systematically. When it finally turned up, it was an absolutely amazing feeling.”
The story is a perfect example of how renting can make projects possible that might otherwise never have happened. Instead of buying specialist equipment for a one-off need, they quickly got hold of the right gear and set out to look for something that meant a great deal.
For Amanda and Jacob it ended with more than a recovered ring. It became a memory for life – and a reminder that sometimes the right equipment makes all the difference.
Since then the couple have got married, and right now they’re on a round-the-world sailing trip. Follow the journey on Instagram: @janda.sailing
