We’re making Hygglo easier to use when real-life plans change — and safer to rely on when something doesn’t go as expected.
Whether you’re borrowing or lending, the goal is simple: more of what you already need should be possible directly on Hygglo.
More flexibility when a rental changes
Rentals aren’t always perfectly predictable. Plans shift, dates change, quantities vary, and sometimes a rental ends earlier than expected. So we’ve been building better ways to handle the most common changes directly on Hygglo:
- Extend a rental that’s already been paid for, without starting from scratch.
- Change the dates on a rental when plans shift.
- Handle partial refunds when a rental ends early or something changes.
- Adjust the price more easily when the scope changes.
- Choose quantities and get the exact price instantly — we’re rolling this out soon, starting with categories like chairs and trestle tables.
The point is that you shouldn’t have to leave Hygglo just because a normal rental needs a small adjustment. For borrowers, that means clearer prices and less back-and-forth; for lenders, it means better tools to manage real rentals as they happen.
Why staying on Hygglo matters
When a rental happens on Hygglo, both sides are covered: secured payments, item coverage, verified identities, and a team that can help if something goes wrong. The moment a deal moves off-platform, all of that disappears.
That’s what the service fee is for — it’s what lets us keep rentals safe, handle payments securely, and step in when someone needs help. So our ask is simple: keep the full rental on Hygglo, from start to finish. When everyone does, everyone’s covered.
What goes in the price
Anything you can price in advance should go into the rental price — things like consumables, delivery, transport or setup. If it’s part of the agreement and you already know the cost, build it into the Hygglo price so the payment is clear, agreed upfront and handled through the platform.
That does not mean every extra service is covered by the Lender Guarantee. For example, transport is still the responsibility of the person providing it, and damage or loss during transport is not covered in the same way as the rented item. Including these costs in the price keeps the full transaction transparent and avoids separate off-platform payments.
The only exception for now is genuinely variable pass-through costs that can’t be known until after the rental, like car mileage or road tolls. We’re building better support for these too, so they can be handled on Hygglo in the future.
In the meantime, please use the exception only for costs that are truly variable. Pushing a disproportionate share of the price into “mileage” or other variable costs isn’t a workaround — it counts as avoiding the fee, and we treat it that way.
Looking out for each other
Most people use Hygglo exactly as intended, and our job is to make that the easy path. But a marketplace only works when people can trust it. Moving rentals off-platform creates risk for both sides and chips away at the safety everyone else relies on.
That’s why we may step in when accounts repeatedly try to take rentals outside Hygglo — not to punish normal mistakes, but to look after the honest majority who keep the marketplace safe.
There’s more coming soon. Thanks for building this with us.
