Fat Llama will become Hygglo on Nov 24th. Why, when and what?

On November 24, Fat Llama will fully become Hygglo. Here’s what’s changing – and what it means for you. In short: New name, lower fees – but the same platform and team.

What is Hygglo? And what does it mean?

Since 2022 Fat Llama has been part of the Hygglo organisation. Hygglo and Fat Llama are sister companies that do the same thing in different countries. Together we are an organisation with the ambition to offer low prices and good security with a focus on positive impact in the world. Our mission is “make it affordable and convenient to get any item, anywhere”. Hygglo originated from Stockholm, Sweden and in Swedish being ”hygglo” means “to be nice towards others”. We think that it is a message that aligns well with the kind of marketplace we want to be and the impact we want to see in the world.

Why not keep Fat Llama and keep two brands?

To be able to become the best peer-to-peer rental service in the world we need to be able to spread the word about the sharing economy as well as possible. One brand instead of two makes this much easier.

When will this happen?

The change will take place on November 24th, 2025.

What will change?

Here’s the quick summary:

  • • We’re lowering our fees!
  • • Everyone will be able to use their account to rent in any of the Hygglo countries
  • • You will need to download a different app in November (Hygglo)

What do I need to do?

Not much. fatllama.com will completely move to hygglo.com. Everything will continue to work the same as before.

If you use the app (which we highly recommend) you need to install the Hygglo app instead of Fat Llama. The new Hygglo app will be published Nov 6th.

If you have any links going to fatllama.com we’d really appreciate that you eventually update them to hygglo.com. That will help the search engines to find us and for you to get more rentals.

Will the fees change to the Hygglo fees – i.e. cheaper?

Yes! From the current fees (25% lender commission + 25% borrower fee), we will change to the Hygglo model of 20%+10%. That means we’ll be lowering the total combined fees by approximately 40%.

For some categories that are higher risk (such as Cameras) the borrower fee will maintain at 25%.

Will the guarantee stay the same?

The guarantee will remain the same, with the same level of protection you’re used to.

Does this mean that I can lend and borrow things between countries?

Yes – this means that your account will be able to be used in any country where the Hygglo brand operates, i.e. Sweden, Norway, United Kingdom, United States, Finland, Denmark and Canada. A Londoner travelling to Stockholm can rent a pushchair using their already verified account.
